Cleaning ceiling fans is probably one of the most burdensome household chores. It can eat up a lot of time and may entail great effort due to the fans’ location. No wonder many would just prefer to hire cleaning services to do the dirty job for them. Hiring cleaning companies, however, is clearly not for everybody, as some may not have the financial capacity to hire such services.
Struggling with cleaning your ceiling fan blades and are not ready to spend a dime on hourly maids’ services? Here are some simple ways to clean your grimy ceiling fans effectively in just a few seconds.
Tip #1: Use a Vacuum Cleaner
Vacuum cleaners are great cleaning implements. They can remove dust build up at just about anywhere, and that includes your dusty ceiling fan blades. To use this effectively in cleaning your ceiling fan, choose a vacuum attachment that can be extended without any hassle. It is also advisable to use wide and flat attachments as opposed to circular ones. If attachments with longer handles are not available, you can use a stool, a crate, or better yet, a ladder, which you can use to step on for support and reach the fan. With the vacuum cleaner turned on, slowly brush the attachment on the blades, making sure that dust is promptly sucked into the hose. Make sure to move the hose only in one direction to avoid having dust flying across the floor.
Tip #2: Use a Magnetic Duster
If you have a magnetic duster available in your house, you can use this cleaning implement to free your ceiling fans from dust and grime build up. If you don’t have this, then it is probably time to buy one at your nearest local store. Don’t worry, you won’t have to spend much on this cleaning tool as it can be bought cheap along with a pack of reusable heads. To effectively use a duster to clean your ceiling fan, simply extend the tool to the fan and drag it slowly over the top of the blades. Repeat the process as needed until all dust are removed.
Tip #3: Use a Pillow Case
Pillow cases are great alternatives when a vacuum cleaner or a magnetic duster is not available. Simply slide the pillow case over a fan blade, then pull it toward you, making sure that dust is safely trapped inside. Repeat the process until all blades are cleaned. The process can only take a second for each blade, you’ll be surprised at how much time it can save you in cleaning.
For better results, use a dusting polish after each clean up to protect your fans from future grime build up. It is also best to perform regular cleaning on the fan blades to prevent dust from building up.
